Fans of the iconic BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses have been sent into meltdown on social media following an unexpected reunion between stars from one of the show’s most memorable plots.

Actress Gina Bellman and fellow performer Mike Fenton Stevens came together again this week, marking 35 years since they shared the screen in the beloved comedy series.

The pair’s reunion sparked an outpouring of nostalgia among fans of the programme, which chronicled the lives of market traders Del Boy and Rodney Trotter as they pursued their dreams of wealth between 1981 and 2003.

Despite the series concluding more than two decades ago, it continues to hold a special place in British television history, with viewers still regularly revisiting episodes and quoting memorable lines.

Ms Bellman and Mr Fenton Stevens portrayed holiday representatives Carmen and Alan in the series seven instalment titled The Unluckiest Winner, which first aired in 1989.

The episode’s plot centred on the Trotters and Cassandra (Gwyneth Strong) embarking on a week-long holiday to Mallorca in Spain.

Rodney had secured the trip by winning an art competition, but there was a significant catch – he was required to pose as a 14-year-old to claim his prize.

The two holiday reps remained sceptical about Rodney’s supposed teenage status, describing it as “extraordinary”.

Del Boy attempted to maintain the deception by explaining that “his late mother was a very tall woman, she was six foot three.”

The “groovy gang” reference stems from a memorable moment in the episode where Rodney received a badge and was inducted as a lifetime member of the children’s club.

As the rep explained to him: “It’s just an idea we came up with to help the kids feel really part of it. Every time one of the organisers says, ‘Are you having fun?’ All you kids shout ‘groovy.'”

Ms Bellman took to X to share a video clip of herself alongside Fenton Stevens, in which she utters the phrase “groovy gang”.

Her accompanying caption read: “After 35 years ‘The Groovy Gang’ are reunited! #OnlyFoolsandHorses #TheUnluckiestWinner.”

The post quickly captured the attention of the show’s devoted fanbase, prompting an enthusiastic response across the platform.

Fans flooded X with praise for the episode, with one declaring it “an absolute all-timer” while another enthusiastically responded: “OMG that is great, I mean… groovy.”

Others hailed the instalment as “one of the masterpiece episodes of Only Fools and Horses”, with one viewer proclaiming it their favourite episode of the entire series.

A further comment noted the episode remains “still superb to this day”.

“This is brilliant. You have hardly aged at all Gina. This was a classic episode of Only Fools and Horses,” another praised.

Someone else commented: “Loved it !! Groovy Gang.” (sic)

The reunion comes after Sir David Jason, 86, recently thrilled audiences by slipping back into character as the brash South London market trader during an appearance on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X.

When Moyles asked if he could say hello to Del Boy, Mr Jason obliged by responding in the character’s distinctive accent: “Yeah, go on then, pal.”
