A 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill over an incident that led to a partial lockdown at a school where three people were previously stabbed.

An allegedly threatening message was made against a pupil at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire, on Friday.

In April, a 14-year-old girl was sentenced to 15 years in detention for attempted murder after two teachers and a pupil were stabbed at the same school.

“I would like to reassure parents, and the wider community, that swift action was taken to both safeguard pupils and to trace the suspect as soon as this report was received,” said Ch Insp Mike Llewellyn.

“You might notice a higher than usual police presence in the area over the coming days.

“These will be dedicated patrols to provide further reassurance to those living in and attending school in the area.”

On Friday, the council said Ysgol Dyffryn Aman was placed in partial lockdown as a precautionary measure for a short time to ensure the safety of pupils and staff.

“Safeguarding procedures were administered swiftly by staff… while a matter was dealt with by police,” it said.

“Lessons continued as normal and the partial lockdown was lifted as soon as the risk had passed.”
