Great Britain’s Amber Rutter won bronze at the International Shooting Sport Federation’s Shotgun World Cup as the Olympic medallist returned to international competition for the first time following the birth of her second son.

The 28-year-old, who gave birth in October, finished behind world-record performances from champion Sara Bongini and silver medallist Victoria Larsson in the ISSF’s new 36-target finals format in Lonato, Italy.

Rutter was named in Team GB’s shooting team for the Paris Olympics just two months after giving birth and won silver in the women’s skeet final following a controversial end to a shoot-off.

“I’m exhausted, but it’s good to be back. It hasn’t been my easiest competition,” she said.

“I felt nervous being back on such a big stage again with so many competitors, and the standard has been so high. But I’m super happy with the bronze medal.

“Three days’ worth of shooting is more than I’ve done for a while. It’s been extremely hot, so it was about trying to keep cool, reset as much as possible and just focus.

“It’s been a great competition, but I’m ready to get home to my boys.”
