A man in his 70s was struck by his own car after being ambushed by a robber who hid in nearby bushes.
The suspect tackled the victim to the ground as he walked from his vehicle to his home on Stevenson Drive in Oldham at 17:25 GMT on Saturday.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the man was then hit by his car as the offender drove away, leaving him injured in the middle of the road.
The victim was treated in hospital for his injuries.
GMP said the car was found abandoned minutes later but no arrests have so far been made.
Det Insp Andrew Day urged anyone who may have relevant information, CCTV or mobile phone footage to get in touch.
“This is a frightening and disturbing incident where an elderly gentleman walking to his house from his car was subjected to a pre-meditated attack, with the suspect in some bushes waiting for him”, he said.
“My team and I are determined to trace those responsible and are following up a number of lines of enquiry.”
