The President of Israel has warned Sir Keir Starmer now is the “moment of truth” to determine his position on Iran, following his statement to MPs.

Speaking to GB News, Isaac Herzog declared the Prime Minister’s current stance on the conflict sends a “very loud and clear message” to Israel and the United States.

Questioned by Home and Security Editor Mark White for his verdict on Sir Keir’s position, Mr Herzog said: “I’m not going into politics in Britain, but I want to make clear our view. We do not seek war, we seek peace. We seek partnerships with our neighbours.

“There are incredible things that are happening in this partnership, but because of that, Iran has done everything possible to derail any peace process and to derail any relationship that can bring a future of peace in the region.”

Criticising the stance of European nations, Mr Herzog suggested it is simply an “illusion” to believe that Iran will not attack the European region.

He made clear: “Now, to think that it will be only in our region, it will be only between Israel and Iran or the United States in Iran and won’t touch Europe is an illusion, because their grand vision is to attack Europe and attack the free world and attack all those infidels who don’t believe in what they believe in. This is the grand vision.

“So under such circumstances, you have to be very tough and clear. If British bases were attacked and if British bases were attacked on the soil of an EU member state, that has repercussions. And I think it must be very clear by the British leadership and European leadership.”

Pressing the Israeli President a second time, Mark questioned whether he would want the British Government and the British military to join Israel and the US in this fight.

Mr Herzog told GB News: “I won’t fall into your question because I know my boundaries, but I think it’s a moment of truth for leaders in the free world, and Britain is a top leader in the free world.

“Honestly, we know and we share a lot of interests together for many years, and I think the picture is very clear. I won’t go further than that because it’s not a decision for us to take.”

Asked how long Operation Epic Fury is suspected to last, Mr Herzog declared that the “empire of evil will not rest” until its “wings are cut”.

He explained: “The Middle East has been constantly turbulent and always in unrest because of an empire of evil that emanates from Iran and has its proxies all over the region, and terror cells all over the world. It was Prime Minister Starmer who said just recently that they’ve identified about 20 potential attacks on Britain.

“And you ask yourself, why would he attack Britain? Because they do that all over the world. Because that empire of evil wants to eradicate all of us and wants to eradicate moderate Muslims, it wants to eradicate Christians. It has a vision, a jihadist vision, and that is what President Trump realised as part of an inherent national security interest, meaning this empire of evil will not rest until you cut its wings.”

Outlining the progress over the first few days of the operation, he added: “What we’re seeing now following the first few days is Hezbollah from Lebanon joining the war, when we made clear that we will not accommodate any such activity, and it may flare up in the Lebanese frontier as well.

“And we are seeing drone warfare and missiles launched at Akrotiri Base, which is a British base for years, a very important base in the Middle East protecting British security interests. And I think that Europe and its allies should have been very loud and clear about this step.

“And you’re seeing the Iranians attacking all the regional states, the very important allies and friends in the region who want to pursue peace with us. That’s where we’re at.”

The President told GB News the idea that Iran will ‘not touch Europe’ is an ‘illusion’

Expressing his joy at witnessing celebrations amongst Iranian expats in London, the Israeli President said he hopes that “all children of Abraham” all over the world can reach that point of celebration.

He concluded: “We are not dictating to the Iranian people how the regime should look like, but I think what was made clear is that we are bringing them a possibility to take their fate in their hands. Millions and millions and tens of millions who are demanding change.

“I was extremely moved to see the incredible scenes in London, on the streets of London, Iranian expats celebrating, hugging and kissing Israelis in London, wishing for a different future and horizon, and a day of peace between Jews and Muslims in the entire Middle East. And that’s what we want to get to, and that’s what should be.

“We are all children of Abraham and that’s what we should be with – Christians, Jews and Muslims all over the world, but for that, sometimes you have to take hard steps, and that’s where we’re at in this very historical junction.”
