Gatwick Airport is left with no running water this afternoon, as toilets cannot be flushed and hand-washing facilities are out of use.

Both terminals are affected, with passengers being handed bottled water in the meantime.

Flights are said to be unaffected, with the normal functioning on the airport ticking over while a response team works to determine the issue.

In a statement on social media, the airport said: “A water issue in the Horley area is causing disruption at the airport this morning.

“The problem is affecting water supply in both terminals and is currently under investigation.

“Bottled water is being made available to passengers and staff across the airport and other contingency measures are being put in place to ensure the welfare of our passengers.

“We will provide further updates and apologise for any inconvenience to passengers.”

Passengers posted online saying they were also unable to get coffee or fill up their bottles from water fountains today.

SES Water, which serves the airport water system, said: “We have an issue at our Bough Beech Water Treatment Works, with some customers experiencing either low water pressure or loss of supply.

“We apologise to everyone affected by this incident.

“We are working hard to return water supplies to normal.”

According to local media reports, nearby residents in Horley and the wider Gatwick area have also lost their water supply amid the outage.

One passenger said on a post to X that she was disappointed the airport didn’t announce the water supply issue quickly.

“If you’re on your way to Gatwick Airport, it might be helpful to know that there is no running water across the entire airport,” they said.

“That means no coffees, no water fountains, no flushing toilets and no hand washing.”

Another person said: “Gatwick Airport has lost access to running water after days of disruption

“We’re talking about the UK’s second busiest airport here… Our country is crumbling.”

One traveller added: “I can’t even have a airport pint because they have no running water. Gatwick is the worst!”
