Lady Louise Windsor approaches carriage driving competitions with remarkable humility, according to trainer Sara Howe, who regularly sees the young royal at events.
Ms Howe, who competed alongside Louise’s late grandfather, Prince Philip, described the 22-year-old as “just another human being” and “that’s how she wants to be treated”.
The trainer added: “You would never know who she is.”
She explained: “She doesn’t come waltzing in as ‘I am, who this’ and all that nonsense. None of that at all. She works hard, and if it goes wrong, it goes wrong, just got to sort it out.”

Ms Howe continued to tell Hello!: “We get a list of the competitors, and if you didn’t see the list, you might not even know who she was, because when she’s dressed up in all her gear, we’re all dressed up, so we all look very similar.”
She emphasised that the discipline itself levels the playing field entirely. “She’s on the same keel as everyone else. No one else cares who she is,” she noted, drawing parallels to Prince Philip’s approach despite his status.
“He’s got a lot of rank, but out on that playing field, we’re all on level keel, aren’t we? So let the best man win,” Ms Howe added. “Doesn’t matter who you are.”

Louise, who sits 17th in the line of succession, has proven valuable for the carriage driving community by drawing public interest to a relatively niche pursuit.
“Our sport is so small, and we need to pull people in,” Ms Howe acknowledged, noting that spectators and competitors alike are eager to see the young royal in action.
Ms Howe concluded: “People want to compete against her.”
The Duchess of Edinburgh frequently attends her daughter’s competitions, with Ms Howe previously revealing that Sophie is present “nine times out of 10” due to her own involvement in the sport.

PA“Her mother is very supportive,” Ms Howe shared, adding that Sophie is “another carriage driver” who remains “heavily involved” in the discipline.
Louise’s younger brother James, Earl of Wessex, also makes occasional appearances to cheer on his sister.
The family’s consistent presence at events reflects their genuine enthusiasm for the sport that Prince Philip championed throughout his life, rather than mere ceremonial obligation.
Felix da Silva-Clamp, Louise’s boyfriend, has been a regular presence at competitions, offering support whilst allowing her to focus on performing.

“He’s always been very supportive, but also leaves her alone to get on with the job,” Ms Howe previously observed, characterising the pair as “normal.”
The trainer recalled an evening gathering at the Glebe where Louise and her partner joined fellow competitors socially. “They join in, and they hel,p and they talk. They’re just lovely,” she said.
Ms Howe noted that whilst the couple maintain their privacy, they remain approachable. “They certainly aren’t put out on a pedestal, and nobody can go anywhere near them. They’re totally the opposite from that.”
