Looking to save on washing up?

British brand Salter has just unveiled its new Crisp and Go portable air fryer, bringing the fight to US rival Ninja’s Crispi.

Salter’s Crisp and Go is a compact 1500W air fryer that ships with a 4-litre glass cooking container plus 1.5-litre meal-prep containers that you can take with you. This one-stop-shop is designed to cook, store, reheat, and take meals on the go. Salter says it has ensured its new machine has simple presets and easy-clean dishwasher-safe parts to make it as simple as possible.

Unveiled at just £89.99, it greatly undercuts Ninja’s own version — priced at £149.99. At first glance, they look cut from the same cloth. But beneath the shared glass-container design and plug-and-cook portability, the two brands are taking noticeably different approaches regarding how much control, power, and flexibility each one offers.

Here’s how the two similar models compete with each other.

You can batch cook and meal prep for the week with the new Salter Crisp & Go Portable Air Fryer. This device lets you cook in a 4L glass container, then portion meals into 1.5L portable pots for easy lunches, dinners, and snacks on the go. With four presets, 200°C cooking, a 360° viewing window, dishwasher-safe PFAS-free glass, and a compact 1500W design, it’s meant to make meal prep quick and simple

Both Salter and Ninja tap into the same core appeal — convenient, portion-controlled cooking without the bulk of a traditional air fryer. They also use glass cooking containers that double as storage, allowing you to prepare meals, cook them, and refrigerate leftovers without transferring food between dishes.

Plus, with dishwasher-safe accessories, it reduces your cleanup time, reinforcing its appeal if you’re pressed for time. Salter’s Crisp and Go is powered by a 1500W motor housed in a compact base designed to minimise countertop clutter, while Ninja’s CRISPi uses a more powerful 1700W PowerPod system built for higher heat efficiency and a more flexible cooking setup.

Salter’s features a 360-degree viewing window, which keeps the cooking process fully visible from all angles so users can monitor progress without lifting the lid or interrupting heat circulation.

Ninja also offers visibility through its glass cooking containers, but instead of centring the design around constant viewing, it prioritises flexibility through a detachable PowerPod that transfers between interchangeable glass vessels, allowing the same heating unit to be used across different portion sizes and cooking setups.

For instance, Ninja uses 3.8L and 1.4L glass containers that actively function as interchangeable cooking vessels, with the PowerPod moving between them depending on portion size or meal type.

On the other hand, Salter operates with a single 4L cooking chamber and includes 1.5L portable containers intended for portioning and transporting meals after cooking, rather than swapping vessels mid-cook.

Both systems also use PFAS-free glass cookware designed for cooking, storing, and reheating.

To cook your meals, Salter relies on four preset cooking modes, such as Air Fry, Bake, Re-crisp, and Ultra Crisp.

Ninja’s Crispi also typically includes four main preset cooking modes — Air Fry, Roast, Recrisp, and Keep Warm. However, its Pro model expands these offerings.

Ultimately, both models target space-saving, meal-prep-focused use, but Salter may lean towards straightforward, visible batch cooking with easy portioning afterwards, while Ninja offers a more flexible system built around switching configurations as you cook.
