Sarah Pochin has scolded Labour for “driving Chagossians off their homeland” on the day her leader accused the Government of blocking his bid to send aid to Chagos Islanders.

The Reform UK leader jetted off to the Maldives with supplies in tow to assist a band of four Chagossians who are attempting to establish a permanent base on a deserted island in the archipelago.

Mr Farage had worked to send a boat carrying vital food and medicines to the island where the men are trying to establish a colony, about 300 miles south of the Maldives.

But the boat refused to allow the Reform UK leader onboard, the Telegraph has reported, due to a combination of threats, mechanical issues and an insistence by UK authorities that only trained crew should be on board, deterring him from making the 24-hour voyage.

Joining Nana Akua on GB News this afternoon, Ms Pochin said: “We all noted, didn’t we, how quickly the British Government was able to act halfway around the world serving four people a deportation notice, when, of course, we are quite unable to act on our borders, inside our own country, down on the south coast.

“So that in itself shows that when the Government wants to act, it can do so. Absolutely shocking behaviour.”

The MP for Runcorn & Helsby added it was a poor indictment on the Prime Minister, blasting the whole ordeal as a “disgrace”.

“We’re just seeing once again – Starmer is weak,” she said. “He is clearly not sure of what his own policy is on this. And I am sure that once again we will see a U-turn on this.

“He doesn’t know what he’s doing and at the end of the day, the people, British people, want to see a Prime Minister that even if they don’t necessarily agree with what he’s doing, at least has the courage of his convictions.

“But once again, we see with the Chagos – it’s in a right mess. The Government is in a mess and it’s an embarrassment for the British people.
