Nigel Farage has delivered his verdict on Donald Trump missing out on this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, saying the US President “genuinely wants to act as the peace-broker”.

Discussing President Trump’s handlings of both the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, the Reform UK leader said that America’s policy towards Russia will be getting “much tougher”, while also praising his “heroic” approach to the Israel-Gaza conflict.

Announcing the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize today, the Committee revealed that the honour was being handed to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.

She was hailed for her “tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela”.

Delivering his thoughts on President Trump missing out on the prize, Mr Farage revealed: “Eight years ago, I signed the declaration of the European Parliament to say he should be put up for the Nobel Peace Prize.

“And I don’t doubt he genuinely wants to act as the peace-broker.”

Discussing Donald Trump’s relationship with Vladimir Putin, the Reform UK leader said the President is “bitterly disappointed” with the behaviour of his Russian counterpart.

Mr Farage said: “He is bitterly disappointed in Putin’s behaviour.

“I think he assumed that Putin would, just as Hamas and Israel have done, would come down, sit round the table, and agree to some compromises.”

He added: “And thus far Putin has completely refused to do so.”

Warning of the impact of Mr Putin’s reluctance to reach an agreement with Donald Trump and Ukraine, Mr Farage said: “I expect what you’ll see is American policy towards Russia getting much, much tougher over the coming weeks.”

Asked for his verdict on the Israel-Gaza ceasefire, the Reform UK leader hailed Donald Trump for his “heroic efforts” in securing a deal.

He said: “A heroic effort by the American administration. Whoever thought we’d see people in Israel and Gaza celebrating simultaneously?

“We never know what the future holds but right now, there’s something very big to celebrate.”

Questioned about former British Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair potentially taking on leadership role in administering the peace procedure in Gaza, Mr Farage swiped at Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

He quipped: “Well, as long as it’s not Keir Starmer! If anybody did their best to stop a peace deal happen it was the British Government, the French Government and other governments recognising the State of Palestine without anything in return.

“As for Blair, he wouldn’t be my choice, however Blair does command considerable support from the UAE, from Qatar, from the Saudis.”
