Nigel Farage has been accused of “running the Tory frontbench” after Kemi Badenoch was slammed as “weak” for refusing to sack Nick Timothy over his controversial comments.

This week, the Tory leader’s Shadow Justice Secretary stirred up a heated debate about whether mass prayer in public places should be allowed after claiming Friday’s open air iftar in Trafalgar Square to celebrate Eid was an “act of domination”.

Mr Timothy said: “Perform these rituals in mosques if you wish. But they are not welcome in our public places and shared institutions.

“I am not suggesting everybody at Trafalgar Square last night is an Islamist. But the domination of public places is straight from the Islamist playbook.”

Meanwhile, Mrs Badenoch firmly backed Mr Timothy, saying she agreed with him on the matter.

She also criticised the separation of men and women during the Ramadan event, a sentiment which was echoed by Reform MP Robert Jenrick.

But this morning, Steve Reed slammed Mrs Badenoch’s refusal to chastise her MP over the “racist” comments.

The senior minister told GB News: “Kemi Badenoch is too weak to point out to him that racism will not be tolerated on the Conservative frontbench because she’s terrified of Nigel Farage, and that’s the truth of it.

“He’s running the Tory frontbench now, not Kemi Badenoch.”
