Nicola Walker fans will be disappointed to learn a drama which left viewers on a cliffhanger isn’t likely to return.

Annika, which debuted in 2023 on U&Alibi and went on to air on BBC One and iPlayer, left fans in suspense with its series two conclusion.

BBC Annika fans were left disappointed to learn the series wouldn’t continue

An IMDB synopsis for the show reads: “Witty, enigmatic DI Annika Strandhed heads up the Marine Homicide Unit, tasked with solving murders in and around the Scottish waters.”

it also starred Jamie Sives and Katie Leung. The series two ending being left open will likely leave viewers frustrated as the series wrapped up with a huge twist.

The final scenes saw Annika investigating the murder of former detective, Jacqueline Drummond, who died of smoke inhalation after someone set fire to her barge.

As the team delved into the case, they finally got a strong lead as to who the killer could be – Annika’s own father.

Annika’s latest series aired on BBC in 2023

Her father, Magnus, had been staying with Annika for a while, and it seemed he’d been in town trying to ensure his involvement in Jacqueline’s brother’s death, which was considered to be a diving accident, never came to light.

In the final scene, Annika, upon realising the shocking truth, turned to the camera and pleaded: “Help me” before the credits rolled.

Unfortunately, fans may never learn the outcome of the plot, with new episodes unlikely.

Responding to the recent update, fans expressed their annoyance at not getting an ending to the series.

Writing on X, one penned: “Unfinished stories and two series then cancellations seems to be getting too frequent now in drama on all channels. As I keep saying, it begs the question, why should viewers invest their time?”

A second wrote: “Loved #annika,” along with a crying face emoji.

Someone else added: “I tend to think they’d get better results if they made fewer shows and let them finish properly.

“I’ve pretty much given up on starting new shows on paid subscription services as it’s not worth the time & money.”
