The New York Jets endured a humiliating reception at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as they were loudly booed while taking to the field — despite officially being the home team.

The chorus of jeers from the stands marked another low point in what has already been a disastrous NFL season for the struggling franchise.

Moments later, the Denver Broncos were welcomed by thunderous applause, with their supporters seemingly outnumbering Jets fans by a significant margin inside the 62,000-seater venue.

The contrast in atmosphere highlighted how far the Jets’ reputation has fallen, even as they attempt to grow their presence overseas.

The Jets have spent the past two years working to establish a foothold in the UK, hosting events and staging appearances to strengthen their international identity.

Last year, they played in London against the Minnesota Vikings, falling short in a disappointing defeat. Their return to the capital this season was meant to demonstrate renewed ambition — but instead exposed a widening disconnect between the franchise and its fan base.

Denver’s following, on the other hand, was visible and vocal throughout the day. The streets around the stadium were filled with orange, white, and blue jerseys, creating the unmistakable impression of a Broncos home game.

When quarterback Bo Nix took to the field alongside Jarrett Stidham for warm-ups, the roar of approval could be heard across the ground.

In contrast, Jets stars including Justin Fields, Garrett Wilson, and Quinnen Williams received a frosty response. The lack of visible home support will come as a major disappointment for the organisation, particularly after its concerted effort to engage with fans in the city through community programmes and promotional work.

The lack of visible home support will come as a major disappointment for the organisation, particularly after its concerted effort to engage with fans in the city through community programmes and promotional work.

Beyond the embarrassment of being booed on “home” turf, the Jets face much deeper concerns on the field. The team remains winless and sits at the very bottom of the NFL standings. Their defence, ranked 32nd out of 32 teams, has struggled to contain even average opposition, despite boasting several high-salary players with All-Pro potential.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Head coach Aaron Glenn is under increasing pressure to reverse the slide, with another defeat likely to trigger questions about the direction of the franchise.

With the trade deadline approaching, senior management may soon be forced to consider reshaping the roster.

Players such as Quinnen Williams, Quincy Williams, Jermaine Johnson, and Breece Hall could all attract interest from other teams and provide valuable draft capital.

For the Jets, however, Sunday’s boos in London served as a blunt reminder that rebuilding support — both on the field and in the stands — may take far longer than expected.
