Newspaper headlines: ‘Tiger attack horror’ and Trump tells Zelensky ‘time to go’ | UK News

The Sunday Times and the Sunday Telegraph both note that Donald Trump’s latest comments about Ukraine’s President Zelensky raise questions about UK-US relations. The Sunday Times reports that Trump told the Ukrainian leader “It’s time to go”, external – while Andy Burnham pledged solidarity with Zelensky. The Telegraph believes Trump’s anger at Ukrainian strikes on Russian fuel facilities “threatens to deepen the rift with the UK, external“. The Observer says Trump has thrown diesel on the fire of relations with Ukraine, external to woo back his base. The Sunday Mirror warns that only by standing resolute will peace once more return to Europe, external.

The Conservative leader, Kemi Badenoch, has told the Mail on Sunday she’s put her party on notice for a pre-Christmas general election, external. The paper says she suspects the prime minister might strike while he’s enjoying a bounce in the polls and both the Green Party and the Liberal Democrats are in disarray. The Sunday Times reminds readers that before the Labour party conference, external, Burnham said, “all of this speculation on an early election – I can knock that dead.” So why, asks the paper, is everyone in Westminster more certain than ever that he’s lying? Without predicting a date, the Sunday Telegraph says Burnham is rushing through laws to scrap photo ID checks at polling stations., external “Quite why Labour wants to make electoral fraud easier to commit is unclear,” it poses. Downing Street says changes will ensure the electoral system remains secure, fair and accessible.

The Sunday Mirror leads with what it calls the “Tiger Park Horror”, external, after a man was killed at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The Sun on Sunday says the tiger dragged the man away in front of horrified families, after he entered its enclosure.
