The interim First Minister of the new Chagossian government in exile has said he would “die for his country to stay British”.

Speaking to GB News’ Martin Daubney, Misley Mandarin said: “I will die for my country to stay British.

“I’m so proud my people chose me to be the First Minister, and I can’t tell how much pride I have to do the fight.”

The islanders established a government in exile to block the Prime Minister from handing over their nation to Mautitius.

Families who had been ousted from the archipelago from between 1967 and 1973 elected Mr Mandarin as their leader, insisting they wish to remain British.
