A thrilled dad from Margate in Kent has won a whopping £1million prize on the National Lottery Lotto draw by total accident.

The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, went to his local retailer to claim a free Lucky Dip ticket and “accidentally purchased” another ticket at the same time.

It was that mistaken purchase that came up trumps, matching five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball on November 29.

The lucky dad now plans to buy a house and treat his loved ones.

He said: “We just couldn’t believe it when we found out, it was a complete shock.

“The fact it was the ticket I bought by mistake makes it even more incredible.

“This is going to make our lives so much more comfortable, and we can’t wait to buy our own home and look after the family properly”.

Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at Allwyn, operator of the National Lottery, congratulated the Margate winner.

He said: “What incredible news for our winner and his family. Sometimes the best things happen by accident.

“We’re thrilled this fortunate mistake has led to such a life-changing win, and we hope they enjoy their new home and comfortable future”.

The National Lottery frequently has winners unknowingly sitting on monumental prizes.

A recent draw revealed one lucky Briton is sitting on a life-changing £10.6million fortune without knowing.

The winning ticket was purchased in Bexley, London, for the Lotto draw held in October.

National Lottery bosses are frantically hunting for the mystery player who matched all six main numbers, being 06, 08, 12, 33, 49, 59, scooping the entire jackpot of £10,633,323.

As players have 180 days from the day of the draw to claim their prize, the currently unidentified winner has only until April 2 to come forward and collect the huge prize, with officials scrambling to locate the winner.
