Detectives have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a man in Clackmannanshire.

Police Scotland said the alarm was raised on Gartmorn Road, Sauchie, at around 00:25 on Thursday.

Officers said William Devaney, 40, was pronounced dead at the scene and his death was being treated as murder.

A 26-year-old man is due to appear before Alloa Sheriff Court on Monday.

Mr Devaney’s family said he was “a really nice person, so joyful, full of life and full of banter.”

In a statement, they added: “Everybody loved him and he loved everybody.

“He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends and was loved by all.”

Det Insp Steven McLean said: “Our thoughts are with William’s family and friends at what is an extremely difficult time.

“We are offering them support as our investigation progresses.”

He said extensive inquiries were ongoing and urged anyone who may have information to contact the force.

Chief Inspector Garry Smith, local area commander for Clackmannanshire, said: “Incidents like this in our community are shocking but rare.

“Our officers are continuing to work with colleagues from the Major Investigation Team and we will have an increased police presence in the area for public reassurance.”
