Emma Webber has criticised the justice system for what she describes as “failures across every agency” while campaigning for changes to the Victims and Courts Bill.
Speaking to GB News, she warned that victims of mental health crimes are often ignored, disrespected, and overlooked.
The Bill produces significant changes aimed at improving the experience of victims within the criminal justice system, with a specific focus on those with mental health needs, vulnerable victims, and victims of offenders with mental health conditions.
Mrs Webber, whose family’s case has been in the public eye after her son Barnaby was brutally stabbed in the Nottingham attacks, has been campaigning tirelessly to make amendments to the Bill.
She has said in the past that “more power and decision-making” would be given to hospital and probation managers on the consideration to release people with mental disorders.
Speaking to GB News, Mrs Webber said: “I think the most important thing to illustrate is that we are not an exception.
“We are not unusual in our case and the failures across every single agency, every single organisation and agency failed over, over multiple years. But we happen to be the family that was in the spotlight.
“It had public interest and and great media support. But you know, it’s not just Barney, Grace and Ian and this is such a big problem.
“And it’s hard to say and isolate what we’re fighting for sometimes because it’s so much and so much is wrong with our criminal justice system.

“So much is wrong, obviously with our National Health Service. But we have to work and we have to campaign on these small changes, these steps.
“Because by winning those battles, you will win the war.”
She added: “We have to make it our job to not be ignored anymore. I think the most important thing to illustrate is that we are not an exception.
“We are not unusual in our case the failures span every single agency and organisation over multiple years.

PAThe families of the Nottingham attack victims have told the Health Secretary they want the names of the staff involved in treating killer Valdo Calocane to be made public.
A report last year into Calocane’s care revealed he was not forced to take long-lasting antipsychotic medication because he disliked needles.
The families say the health workers involved must be held accountable.
Calocane, who carried out the crazed attack, admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
He was handed an indefinite hospital order and told it was unlikely that he would ever be released.
A judge-led public inquiry into the decisions made prior to the attacks was announced in February and is due to take place later this year.
At the time Mrs Webber said the Bill would be “a betrayal of every victim who has already been failed by this system” if it was passed into law in its current form.
“This must not happen. It is utterly outrageous that the Government would even contemplate this,” she said.
