GB News presenter Michelle Dewberry has launched a scathing attack on the cost of asylum seekers to British taxpayers, blasting it as “disgraceful.”
Michelle’s comments come as a record-breaking number of migrants crossed the English Channel today, piling pressure on the Government over its border policies.
Michelle said on GB News: “There has been roughly 700 people crossing today this will end up costing the taxpayers the viewers nearly £28 million per annum.
“I mean, I think that is so disgraceful. At what point will the Labour Government actually sit there and go, do you know what our strategy, our three little word mantra. It’s not enough. What are they waiting for?”

Former Labour adviser Matthew Tobitt replied: “A good question. To be honest with you.
“Well, my position, I will no doubt be asked about this for the next four years is that the Labour Party will not do it, and therefore my position won’t change.

“I have no issue with people wishing to come here legally and make make businesses, earn a living, employ people, whatever.
“I also believe in the moral cause of if you are genuinely fleeing persecution and you have relatives or whatever here, therefore you have a legal a legal claim to asylum due to genuine persecution.
“At the moment, with the system that we’ve got, the system is broken and we cannot differentiate between the two.
“And at the moment, because of the 51 convention, which we drafted all them years ago, we we cannot when these people are throwing their passports into the channel, we can’t differentiate.
“So what you’ve got is economic migrants piggybacking on the back of potentially people who are genuinely fleeing persecution and not paying their own way.
“We’ve got to reform the whole system, not smash the gangs or stop the boats.”
GB News revealed that 669 migrants have arrived in Dover Harbour so far today. This surpasses the previous high of 656 migrants who made the journey on Saturday.
Another small boat with approximately 70 migrants on board was being monitored making its way towards UK waters. If these migrants successfully reach British shores, the total for today would exceed 700 people in a single day.

The crossings continued despite frequent rain showers across the Channel throughout Tuesday.
This surge in arrivals represents a significant challenge to Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s pledge that his government would “smash the gangs” facilitating illegal migration.
The unprecedented numbers have raised questions about the effectiveness of Labour’s approach to border security.
Border Force and French border patrols were completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of small boat sightings.
