The Metropolitan Police have confirmed it received a letter in 2019 about a “number of claims” relating to the Duchess of Sussex’s father, Thomas Markle Sr.
It added that it was “reviewing its handling of the matter,” including whether the force needs to be referred to the police watchdog.
Philippine authorities confirmed this week that they are looking into claims that the Duchess of Sussex’s father allegedly possessed a collection of child sexual abuse imagery.
That investigation began after Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., reported finding the alleged material at their father’s former residence in the Philippines, according to The Sun.
Meghan had said on Friday she was made aware of “disturbing allegations” about her father in 2018, a year before the Met said it received claims against the 82-year-old.
Thomas Markle Sr. has strenuously denied all allegations.
