Meghan Markle’s father is set to receive a prosthetic leg after his life-saving surgery in December, 2025.

Thomas Markle Sr, 81, has been in rehabilitation after his left leg was amputated in a three-hour operation.

His son, Thomas Markle Jr, told the Mirror: “He’s going through therapy. He’s going through physical rehab.

“We’re going to have to get him fitted for a prosthetic here pretty soon and get that man walking again. That’s the goal. That’s the priority.”

The 81-year-old had to have his leg cut off below the knee after a blood clot formed in his left thigh, cutting off the blood supply to his foot.

Meghan “reached out to her father” after he underwent the “life-saving treatment” in December, with a spokesman for the Duchess of Sussex previously telling GB News: “I can confirm she has reached out to her father.”

Mr Markle Jr announced at the time that his father had the operation, sharing: “My dad is being very brave. His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly.

“I took him to a local hospital, and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated.

“There was no option. I was told the leg had to be removed, and it was a case of life or death.”

Mr Markle Sr has been estranged from his daughter, Meghan, since her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018.

Meghan’s father has never met Prince Archie, Princess Lilibet, or the Duke of Sussex.

Recently, the duchess’s dad was able to swap his hospital gown for regular clothing for the first time since his surgery.

Meghan’s father enjoyed a celebratory lunch with fellow patients and nursing staff, describing it as “great fun”, with the occasion featuring red roses and chocolates for Valentine’s Day.

“I’m being very well taken care of, and I am grateful for all the wonderful care I am getting,” he said.

Mr Markle Sr told The Mail on Sunday he is gradually coming to terms with his new situation.

“I am adjusting slowly and doing a lot of physiotherapy. I am feeling very happy and am making good progress. I have a long way to go, but am getting used to my new circumstances,” he said.

For Valentine’s Day, Meghan shared a touching photo showing Prince Harry cradling their daughter Lilibet.

The Duchess of Sussex captioned the image: “These two + Archie = my forever Valentines.”

The rare snap was one of the most revealing glimpses yet of the couple’s four-year-old daughter, who sits seventh in line to the throne.

The sunset family portrait showed Lilibet dressed in a pink frock and tights, holding a cluster of red balloons in her father’s arms as he gazed at her adoringly.
