Meghan Markle marked Armistice Day, or Veterans Day as it’s known in the US, by posting a moving homage to Prince Harry’s military career on her Instagram account.

The tribute showcased memorable footage from the Duke of Sussex’s 2013 Afghanistan service, capturing the moment he abandoned a television interview to respond to an emergency alert at Camp Bastion.

Meghan’s post included her husband’s words about military service: “Once served. Always serving.”

She expressed gratitude to veterans, writing that she was honouring those who “served, sacrificed, and continue to serve” both on Veterans Day and throughout the year.

The Instagram montage featured a two-part presentation beginning with archival material from Harry’s time as an Apache helicopter pilot.

The footage captured him instantly reacting to a security alarm, removing his microphone and sprinting towards his aircraft during the television recording.

Harry’s decade-long military career included two Afghanistan deployments between 2005 and 2015, during which he achieved the rank of Captain.

Following his service, he established the Invictus Games in 2014, creating an international sporting competition for wounded veterans.

The second image Meghan shared depicted Harry’s recent engagement at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, where he met with veterans on November 6, while wearing a remembrance poppy.

The social media tribute emerged following controversy surrounding the couple’s attendance at glamorous Hollywood events during Remembrance weekend.

The couple faced sharp criticism for their appearance at two star-studded Los Angeles events on November 8, the night before Remembrance Sunday.

They attended a charity gala honouring Serena Williams in West Hollywood, followed by Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday celebration at Jeff Bezos’s Beverly Hills residence.

Whilst Harry displayed a red poppy on his dinner jacket and tuxedo at both gatherings, Meghan’s absence of the remembrance symbol drew particular scrutiny.

The timing of their glamorous outings coincided with the most solemn weekend in the royal calendar, when Commonwealth nations honour fallen service members.

Meanwhile in London, senior royals, including King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and the Princess of Wales, gathered at the Royal Albert Hall for the Festival of Remembrance on the same evening the Sussexes attended Hollywood parties.

The Royal Family subsequently observed Remembrance Sunday with traditional solemnity at the Cenotaph in Whitehall.

On Armistice Day, Princess Kate led the nation in marking Armistice Day at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, conducting her first wreath-laying ceremony at the venue.

She described the location as a “special” and “powerful” place for reflection whilst meeting military families and veterans during the commemorative service.
