Meghan Markle has shared a touching new photograph of Princess Lilibet on social media to commemorate International Day of the Girl.

The 43-year-old former actress posted the picture on Instagram, capturing a tender moment between her and Lilibet at their California residence.

Accompanying the image was an empowering statement from Meghan: “To all the girls – this world is yours. Do everything you can to protect your rights, use your voice, support each other.”

She continued: “We will do the same for you. It’s your right and our responsibility. Go get ’em, girl! Happy International Day of the Girl.”

The United Nations (UN) designated October 11 as International Day of the Girl Child to address global gender disparities and advocate for young women’s access to education, healthcare and protection from discrimination.

The post comes just hours after Meghan Markle took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes video from her and Prince Harry’s appearance at the World Mental Health Day Gala in New York City.

The footage captured a light-hearted moment between the couple backstage, with Meghan seen laughing whilst Harry reviewed documents beside a lamp.

The Duchess of Sussex captioned the clip “Happy World Mental Health Day,” she added a personal tribute: “…to the man who always keeps me laughing.”

The social media post came less after the pair attended the Project Healthy Minds event.

At Thursday’s gala, the couple were honoured as Humanitarians of the Year for their charitable work.

However, observers noted some awkward interactions during their red carpet appearance.

Additionally, Meghan found herself standing by herself when Harry moved away to engage in a conversation with another attendee.

These moments prompted speculation about tension between the pair, however, Meghan’s latest Instagram indicates they are on good terms.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle marked World Mental Health Day by participating in Project Healthy Minds’ annual festival in New York City on Friday.

The couple’s Archewell Foundation organised three panel discussions at the event, which gathered industry leaders to examine the future of mental health.
