Meghan Markle makes budget-conscious selection with £109 coat from Zara

Meghan Markle has embraced affordable fashion during her Jordan visit, sporting a £109 grey wool blend jacket from Zara at a rehabilitation facility in Amman this morning.

The Duchess of Sussex, 44, chose the topstitched piece from the Spanish high-street retailer for her appearance at the National Centre for Rehabilitation of Addicts alongside Prince Harry.

The budget-conscious selection marks a departure from her typically luxurious wardrobe, echoing the accessible style frequently adopted by the Princess of Wales, who also favours the brand.

She completed the ensemble with black suit trousers and Chanel heels, creating a notably understated look for the engagement.

This was not the duchess’s first foray into budget fashion during the two-day trip.

Upon touching down in Jordan on Wednesday, she opted for £49.99 black mid-heel sandals with ankle straps from the same retailer, teaming them with a white Veronica Beard jacket and matching trousers.

Later that day, Meghan switched into a khaki Zara t-shirt priced at just £12.99, which she wore during a football session at a refugee camp.

The casual top was layered with a £95 white shirt from With Nothing Underneath and paired with Jenni Kayne trousers, blending high-street finds with more premium pieces.

The duchess also adopted a minimalist approach to accessories throughout the visit, leaving her customary collection of bangles and glittering diamonds behind in Montecito.

Her only visible jewellery consisted of a simple gold wedding band and her signature Cartier Love bracelet, maintaining the pared-back aesthetic.

The stripped-down styling represents a significant shift from Meghan’s usual appearance at public engagements, where she typically adorns herself with multiple statement pieces.

The understated choices appear deliberate for the humanitarian-focused trip, which saw the couple invited by the World Health Organisation’s director-general, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, to learn about support efforts for displaced Syrians and Palestinians in the region.

During their visit to the rehabilitation centre, both Harry and Meghan penned messages of encouragement for patients undergoing treatment.

“Congratulations on your dedication to your care. Wishing you continued healing and happiness,” the duchess wrote on orange paper.

Her husband’s note read: “It’s OK to not be OK. Trust each other. Congratulations on your recovery. Now share your courage and experience.”

The couple also toured World Central Kitchen’s regional headquarters, where the organisation coordinates the distribution of one million hot meals daily across Gaza.

The charity was established by celebrity chef Jose Andres, who featured on the second series of Meghan’s Netflix cookery programme.
