Megan Thee Stallion was rushed to hospital on Tuesday evening after becoming unwell during her Broadway performance of Moulin Rouge! The Musical in New York City.

The 31-year-old rapper, who is currently starring as Zidler in the production at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, had to leave the stage partway through the show.

A spokesperson for the Houston-born artist confirmed she had been taken to a nearby medical facility for assessment.

“During Tuesday night’s production, Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated,” her representative stated.

The cause of her sudden illness remains unknown, with no further details disclosed about her condition.

Her representative added that updates would be shared as more information becomes available.

The Grammy winner’s hairstylist, Kellon Deryck, posted a message on X urging supporters to keep the artist in their thoughts.

“Everyone say a prayer for Megan, we are all at the hospital,” Mr Deryck wrote.

No additional details regarding the nature of her symptoms have been made public.

The incident occurred during what has been a landmark engagement for the musician, who joined the long-running jukebox musical for an eight-week stint.

Her performances have incorporated her own tracks, including Savage and Body, alongside the show’s existing repertoire.

Loren Lorosa, a producer for The Breakfast Club who was in the audience, described the disruption on social media.

She recounted that the performance halted unexpectedly, with theatre staff apologising to attendees and instructing them to stay in their seats.

“I asked security if we’re safe… they told us ‘for now, we’ll update you if anything changes,'” Lorosa wrote on X.

She noted that the few opening scenes featuring Megan had been impressive, expressing disappointment that her experience was cut short.

Theatre officials subsequently announced that the artist had been removed from the evening’s performance, though no explanation was provided to the audience.

Another performer stepped in to complete the show in her absence.

The Grammy-winning artist made her debut in the role on March 24, marking a historic moment for the production as the first woman to portray Zidler on Broadway.

Previous performers in the part have included Tony Award winner Danny Burstein, who originated the role, as well as Tituss Burgess, Boy George and Wayne Brady.

Her engagement is scheduled to continue until May 17, though it remains unclear whether upcoming performances will be affected by her hospitalisation.

“Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling, but I’m up for the challenge,” she said when her casting was announced.
