MasterChef Australia star Laura Sharrad has revealed a shocking encounter her family had while dining at a restaurant that left her feeling ‘ashamed and disgusted’.
The chef took to Instagram to reveal details of the incident, which occurred when she was out for breakfast with her husband Max and their daughter Florence Rose, six months.
Laura, who was the runner-up on season 12 of the hit cooking show, told how a solo diner took issue with baby Florence ‘giggling’ and even went as far as to complain to the restaurant.
‘At brekky this morning, a solo diner started huffing and repeating ”oh no really?!” and continued to mumble under their breath about Florence loudly as Florence was giggling and playing with her toys,’ she wrote in a since-removed Instagram post, the Courier Mail reported.
She said Max confronted the disgruntled diner and pointed out that Florence wasn’t crying, but his protests appeared to fall on deaf ears as the diner then complained that Florence was ‘screaming and grunting’.
Branding the diner a ‘joke of a human’, Laura continued: ‘This was a full-grown adult who was grunting at the waitress trying to impersonate Florence, as the few tables inside at breakfast stared at this person, embarrassed for what a joke of a human they are.
Laura revealed that after the tense confrontation, a waitress came and apologised to her and her husband for the shocking complaint.

Laura admitted the incident left her unable to finish her meal and said she felt ‘disgusted’ by the diner’s actions.
‘I felt so ashamed and disgusted at the same time that this person was so disgusted by Florence and her having a jolly old time playing with her giraffe at 7am so we could eat breakfast,’ she added.
Laura and Max married in 2018, three years after meeting as colleagues at the Orana restaurant in Adelaide, which was owned by the late Jock Zonfrillo.
She now runs Nido Bar and Pasta restaurant in Adelaide, South Australia, with fellow chef Max.
Laura narrowly missed out on winning MasterChef: Back to Win in 2020, placing second to champion Emelia Jackson.
She was undone by her overly icy gelato dessert, which she’d accidentally left in an open freezer.
However, she was awarded $30,000 to help grow her business.
Elsewhere, Laura and Max welcomed their first child together, Florence, in April of this year.
Florence’s arrival came less than a year after Laura announced she had suffered a devastating miscarriage.
The star posted a photo of herself alongside her husband and their dog, Alfie, to Instagram, alongside a long caption.

Laura wrote: ‘A lot of you have noticed that I’ve been very quiet on here lately, and to be honest I’ve been avoiding all my platforms.
‘I share every part of my life with you all, so this feels right to share our heartache… I wanted nothing more to share with you that our little family was growing.
‘I don’t think anything can ever prepare you for losing a little one, and although our baby was still so tiny, it doesn’t make it any less hard.’
She went on: ‘Not a lot of people talk about miscarriage, and I now truly understand how hard it can be, but for me, it’s helped me heal physically and mentally.
‘We are feeling very positive about the future and I’m so grateful to have Max by my side.’
