Around 50 firefighters have rushed in to tackle a huge blaze at Woodend Hospital in Aberdeen.

Fire crews were alerted to the inferno at 9:50pm last night and are still at the scene this morning.


Footage from the blaze shows the enormous fire ripping through the hospital on Eday Road in the Scottish city.

it is understood that the fire broke out at the hospital’s disused Westholme building.

The extent of damage to the building is currently unknown but footage appears to show that the roof has been destroyed.

Eight fire engines as well as a specialist height appliance remain at the scene this morning.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Around 50 firefighters are currently tackling a fire at the Woodend Hospital building on Eday Road in Aberdeen.

“Nearby residents are urged to keep windows and doors closed due to large volumes of smoke, and to avoid the area at this time.

“We currently have eight fire appliance and a high-reach vehicle at the scene after receiving the call just before 9.50pm.

“Emergency services will be on scene throughout Monday night and into Tuesday morning as we deal with this protracted incident.”

An NHS Grampian spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to a disused office building on the Woodend Hospital site, in Aberdeen, at around 9.50pm this evening.

“No patients or staff currently occupy this building.

The extent of the damage is still unknown

“The building, Westholme, lies around 60 metres from the closest hospital building.

“Our colleagues in the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service are currently tackling the blaze and have advised nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed and for people to avoid the area at this time.”
