A murder investigation is underway after a 43-year-old woman who was battered to death was discovered in her south east London flat.
Police were called to a flat in Argyll Road in Woolwich at around 17.25pm on Friday after concerns for the unnamed occupant’s welfare were raised.
According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, officers gained entry to the property and found the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post mortem on Saturday indicated that her cause of death was blunt force trauma and head inury.
Detective Chief Inspector Suzanne Soren, Specialist Crime South said: ‘This is a deeply tragic incident and are thoughts are very much with the victim’s family who are being supported by specialist officers.
The woman’s next of kin have been informed of her death, but formal identification of the body is yet to take place.

‘At this early stage we believe the suspect was known to the victim and we are carrying out urgent enquiries to trace a named individual.’
Police have urged anyone with information which could assist with the investigation to come forward.
