A dozen waste collection trucks designed to help us navigate narrow roads, and heavily parked streets have been rolled out to serve neighbourhoods across Manchester.

The 12 new vehicles form part of the wider Clean and Green Manchester campaign – an initiative focused on improving environmental standards citywide, encouraging recycling, and promoting responsible waste disposal among communities. This ongoing programme also encourages residents to become familiar on what goes in your recycling bins, to ensure an efficient waste and recycling service for everyone.

Several of the new trucks feature refreshed key messages that encourage and remind residents of everyday sustainable actions and community efforts to make a collective difference. These include:

  • Recycle your food at home in green bins
  • Thanks for using our litter bins
  • Recycle your plastic pots, tubs and trays in brown bins
  • Clean and Green investment – we’re investing to make the city cleaner, greener and safer

The specialised design of the new vehicles reflects Manchester’s commitment to future‑proofing its waste operations, ensuring the fleet can operate safely and effectively even as the city grows, traffic increases, and residential parking pressures continue.

For more information, the council advises residents on how to properly dispose of waste and recycling.

Councillor Lee‑Ann Igbon, Executive Member for Vibrant Neighbourhoods, said: “The 12 new trucks are smaller than a standard bin truck – we are future proofing our vehicles as we know that with more vehicles on the road and trying to get down heavily parked or narrow streets, we needed trucks that could enable easier access for neighbourhoods.

“Our messaging throughout this roll out is important; we are encouraging and reminding communities to work together in recycling food waste appropriately to utilising litter bins when out in the city. All our everyday actions towards protecting the environment and this brilliant city, all add up to it being cleaner and greener for everyone.”
