Man who died after two-vehicle crash named | UK News

Thomas Lagan was from the Cookstown area

A 21-year-old man who died following a two-vehicle crash outside Cookstown, County Tyrone, has been named as Thomas Lagan.

Police said they received a report of a collision involving a Seat Leon and a Volkswagen Bora on the Pomeroy Road shortly after 06:45 BST on Friday.

Mr Lagan, who was from the Cookstown area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman was also transferred to hospital for treatment for her injuries.

Thomas Lagan died after the collision on the Pomeroy Road

J and B Engineering, Mr Lagan’s employer, posted a tribute on social media which described him as a “valued colleague and friend”.

“Thomas was an integral part of J&B Engineering, known not only for his exceptional work ethic but also for his kindness, warmth, and quiet nature,” the firm said.

“His contributions to our team and his positive spirit will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him.

“Our thoughts are with Thomas’s family, especially Thomas’s brother James our colleague, his brother Daniel a former employee, his friends, and all those who loved him during this difficult time.”

Owen Reid from J and B Engineering described Mr Lagan as an “integral part of the team”.

He said he was a “kind, hard working young lad” and would be “sorely missed by everyone”.

“Our thoughts are with his brother James and Daniel and all his family and friends,” Mr Reid told News NI.

Democratic Unionist party (DUP) councillor Eva Cahoon said the community in the Cookstown area “are in a sense of shock and sadness following this fatal accident”.

“This is devastating news and my immediate thoughts and prayers are with the family in this time of heartbreak and sorrow.”

Police say they are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and have asked anyone with information or relevant footage to contact them.
