Forensics and police are at Richmond Street with a cordon in place after a shooting during the early hours of Saturday

A man is in hospital after being shot during a city centre attack in Manchester’s gay village.

The man was shot in the leg in Richmond Street at about 05:00 GMT with his injuries not believed to be life-changing.

Six men aged between 23 and 26 have been arrested, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

GMP, who believe the attack was targeted, said they found a gun close to where the injured man was found.

The six men have been arrested on suspicion of affray and firearms offences and remain in police custody for questioning.

Supt Stephen Wiggins, from Greater Manchester Police, said: “This will undoubtedly be a concerning incident to be waking up to, not just for those who live and work in the city centre, but for the whole of Greater Manchester.”

He added that officers “believe this is a targeted incident and there is no wider threat to the general public”.

He appealed for anyone with information about the shooting to contact police.
