A Gateshead resident has scooped £120,000 on the National Lottery’s Set For Life game during his very first attempt at playing it.

The fortunate winner will receive £10,000 monthly for a full year after opting for a Lucky Dip entry.

Rather than purchasing a ticket with fresh funds, the man decided to reinvest some previous winnings into trying the Set For Life draw for the first time.

His gamble proved remarkably successful, transforming what could have been a modest sum into a substantial windfall that will provide him with regular payments throughout 2026.

The winner learned of his remarkable fortune on October 27 last year, marking the start of what he describes as a transformative period.

His immediate focus centres on those closest to him rather than personal spending.

“This year is absolutely life-enhancing, not just for me, but for all the people I care about,” the winner said.

“Knowing I can really help them and make a genuine difference to their lives is just a wonderful feeling.

“We’re all going to feel totally uplifted by this!”

The man has made clear supporting family and friends remains his primary concern before considering his own needs.

Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at National Lottery operator Allwyn, offered his congratulations to the lucky player.

“What wonderful news for our winner” he said.

“His first ever Set for Life Lucky Dip has certainly paid off.

“It is lovely to hear that he can help his loved ones and make 2026 truly special for everyone.”

The National Lottery generates approximately £32million weekly for funded projects across Britain.

Since its launch, more than £52billion has been raised for Good Causes, supporting initiatives ranging from arts and sports organisations to local community groups and the preservation of historic British landmarks.
