A 35-year-old man has been charged after a nine-year-old girl was found dead at an industrial estate in Arbroath.

The youngster was found seriously injured in the early hours of Monday morning at the Elliot industrial estate in the Angus town.

She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where she later died.

Officers launched an investigation into the tragedy, with the white Briton due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court later today.

Police Scotland confirmed they were not searching for anyone else in relation to the child’s death.

The girl had been camping in the area with her family before she was later discovered.

Detective inspector Mike Ness of Police Scotland’s major investigation team confirmed a police presence will stay in the area.

Inquiries will remain active, he said.

He added: “Our thoughts remain with those affected by these events.

“A police presence will remain in the area while our inquiries continue.

“Anyone with any concerns, or information, should approach these officers or contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0008 of Monday August 3 2026.”

The girl is believed to have been camping in the area with her family, who police say are being supported by specialist officers.
