Makeup is a great tool for creating different looks, and some products even have the power to help you look younger.
Speaking exclusively to GB News, a dermatologist shared the makeup staples that are better to use as you get older.
Dr Stephanie Taylor, who is a senior consultant at MedPak Solutions, said: “I’ve worked with everyone, from teenagers to individuals in their 70s. My top makeup tip to you? Less is more.
“Choose products that love your skin back. When your skin is healthy and happy, you’ll feel more confident and glow with an added level of gorgeousness.”

One product that can be ageing if used incorrectly is blusher. The expert said: “Cream blush is far more suitable for mature skin compared to powder.
“Powder can dry out dry skin and make it appear drier still. The creamy blush melts into the skin and provides a soft, natural tone. I apply it on the apples above the jawline to lift the face slightly.”
Powders can make your skin appear dry and even highlight fine lines and wrinkles as they settle into these cracks. Cream products are more hydrating and can contribute to a more favourable look.
Keeping your skin hydrated is vital, Dr Taylor said. This contributes to a more youthful appearance and helps makeup to go on more evenly.
The expert added: “As we age, our skin dries out. Dry skin makes the wrinkles and fine lines more pronounced.
“I always recommend that my patients begin with a quality moisturiser. Look for one that contains hyaluronic acid or ceramides, they lock moisture in and make your skin feel supple and smooth.”
Makeup expert and lash specialist Nadia Lopel agreed with this. She suggested using a hydrating primer before applying foundation and other makeup products.
The pro explained: “The key to makeup that gives a younger look is the technique, as well as the right products that emphasise and don’t hide.

“A hydrating primer is always the first step. It’s all a process of having a nice canvas that plumps up the skin a little to minimise the appearance of fine lines and dry patches.”
When choosing a concealer, a doctor shared why you should have two types of concealer in your makeup bag for smoother, more youthful skin.
The expert suggested opting for a fat-based (“not water-based”) concealer for under the eye, whereas a full-coverage one would work better for covering blemishes.
