British shoppers have been issued an urgent safety alert as Lidl pulls a popular snack from shelves.

The supermarket has issued an urgent recall of its Simply Roasted & Salted Cashews in 125g packets, specifically those bearing a best-before date of June 28, 2026.

The recall stems from potential glass contamination within the affected batch, posing a serious “choking hazard” to consumers.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has confirmed the recall, adding that the possible presence of glass renders the product unsafe for consumption.

While other “Simply”-branded items remain unaffected, customers who have purchased the specific cashew product should take immediate action to protect themselves and their households from potential harm.

Officials advised: “If you have bought the above product, do not consume it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”

The retailer will process full refunds without requiring proof of purchase. Point-of-sale notices are being positioned throughout affected stores to alert shoppers to the recall.

These notices also provide instructions for those who may have already taken the product home.

In an official statement, Lidl GB said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your cooperation.”

The company said it has moved swiftly to address the contamination risk, working alongside food safety authorities to ensure customer well-being remains paramount.

Lidl’s cashew recall comes just weeks after the supermarket ruled a sweet snack “unsafe to eat” due to the potential presence of metal.

The retailer flagged three batches of XXL Sondey Stroopwaffel with Caramel Flavour Filling & Butter (560g), urging shoppers to avoid consumption.

Customers should follow the typical recall process, returning the product to their nearest Lidl store for a full refund, with or without a receipt.

While recalls can prove disruptive, prompt action by supermarkets demonstrates the rigorous safety protocols that protect Britons from potentially dangerous products.

About product recalls and withdrawals

The FSA explained: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).

“The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued.

“This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.”
