A nursery worker in Leeds has been jailed after making more than 5,000 indecent images of children.

Kristian Parry, 26, was sentenced to two years in prison and handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order lasting 10 years.

Parry, of Middleton, secured his job using false references and was arrested in May last year after police suspected he had uploaded indecent images of children.

Officers later found thousands of images and videos on his laptop and mobile phone, including Category A material, which depicts the most serious forms of abuse.

At Leeds Crown Court, he admitted fraud, making indecent images and possessing a prohibited image of a child.

Parry, 25 at the time of offending, was responsible for looking after children under five and changing nappies.

His screensaver on his phone was an image of a child wearing a nappy.

One of most severe images on his phone showed a young boy between two and four subject to abuse.

Searches of his devices revealed 871 images in category A, 1,187 in category B, and 3,263 in category C.

After his arrest, it was uncovered he had falsified two job references via email, and had been dismissed from his role at another Leeds nursery in June 2024, due to alcohol abuse.

The court heard Parry was of previous good character in his defence.

He had struggled with alcohol consumption and self-harmed for two years.

Judge Geoffrey Marson KC said: “Alcohol is a significant problem for you.”

The court heard how he had shown remorse, felt guilt, and shame for his actions, in mitigation.

He said Parry had sought jobs at nurseries in order to give him access to very young children.

“Had they known your history you would not have been so employed,” the judge said.

He added: “The only explanation is that you have a sexual interest in very young children. You had access to the dark web and anonymised some of your browsing.

“You had chatted to others who shared your interests.

“These offences are so serious that only an immediate sentence can be justified.

“You are assessed as a high risk. I am not persuaded there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.”
