A man was taken into custody at Bangor University last Friday following reports an individual was seen with a bladed item.

North Wales Police officers were dispatched to the campus just before 2.30pm on February 6 after receiving the reports.

The male suspect, 20, was detained on suspicion of public order offences.

In a statement, the force confirmed its investigation into the incident remains active and that officers continue to work in close cooperation with the university.

Police have stated they are not searching for any other individuals in connection with the matter.

District Inspector Jamie Owens addressed the public regarding the incident to share details about the force’s enquiries.

“Enquiries are ongoing, and we are working closely with the university following Friday’s incident.

“I want to reassure the community that we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

“I would also like to thank the community for their patience as we worked to safely resolve the situation on Friday afternoon.

“No additional details about the circumstances surrounding the arrest have been disclosed by authorities at this stage.”

The incident at Bangor came just days after a teenager was arrested on suspicion of murder after a university student was stabbed in Leicester.

Police were called after reports were made that a man had collapsed in Oxford Street, near De Montfort University, last Wednesday.

Leicestershire Police said while officers were on the way to the scene, it was reported that a man, in his 20s, had been stabbed.

The victim, a 20-year-old cybersecurity student at De Montfort University named Khaleed Oladipo, was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into police custody.

Police said they believed the victim was “involved in an altercation with another man in the street” who then left the scene before they arrived.

Detective Inspector Lorna Granville, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “We are currently piecing together exactly what has occurred on the corner of Oxford Street and Bonners Lane between, what is reported, as two men involved in a confrontation.

“One of the men is believed to have been stabbed and has then collapsed in the street. Despite the best efforts of medical staff he died in hospital. CCTV in the area is currently being reviewed and officers are speaking to potential witnesses to assist with our investigation.

“We know a lot of people came to the aid of the victim before emergency services arrived and we want to thank them for their help.

“If you were one of these people and you haven’t yet spoken to police, please make contact with us.”
