Two of Europe’s royal houses were united yesterday when Isabel of Habsburg-Lorraine married Carlos Gaytán de Ayala at the Jesuit Church in Vienna.

The ceremony, held on Saturday in the Austrian capital, drew distinguished guests from across the continent’s aristocratic circles.

The 26-year-old bride is the daughter of Archduke Simeon of Austria and Princess Maria of Bourbon-Two Sicilies.

Her groom descends from Spanish nobility, making the occasion a truly cross-border royal affair.

Belgium’s reigning family were among the most prominent attendees, with King Philippe and Queen Mathilde joined by two of their four children for the nuptials.

Both the bride and groom are currently based in London, where they each hold positions in the financial sector.

Princess Elisabeth, the 24-year-old heir to the Belgian throne, cut a striking figure in a pleated emerald green dress by French label Maje.

She completed the ensemble with a feathered headpiece in a complementary shade, a coordinating clutch, and nude court shoes.

Queen Mathilde, 53, opted for a standout red lace outfit for the occasion.

The couple’s younger son, Prince Gabriel, also accompanied his parents to the ceremony.

Notably absent were the family’s two youngest members, Prince Emmanuel, 20, and Princess Eleanore, 18, who did not make the trip to Vienna.

Princess Elisabeth, a recent Harvard graduate with a Master’s in Public Policy, is reportedly planning a transatlantic sailing voyage later this year as part of a gap year, according to Belgian publication Het Nieuwsblad.

The Belgian royals’ presence at the wedding was far from coincidental. King Philippe’s sister, Princess Astrid, is wed to Prince Lorenz, Archduke of Austria-Este, who belongs to a cadet branch of the Habsburg-Lorraine dynasty.

The bride, Isabel, was born in Grabs, Switzerland, and studied Politics and Economics at the University of Navarra before settling in London.

She currently works as an analyst at Freeman Capital.

Her husband Carlos is the son of Carlos María de Palacio y de Oriol and Teresa Gaytán de Ayala y Domínguez.

He holds a senior associate role within the private equity division at Mubadala Capital, also in London.

Isabel’s bridal gown was a white satin A-line design featuring a floral lace bodice and a high neckline with short sleeves.

She wore her dark hair swept into a refined updo beneath a tulle veil adorned with floral embroidery.

The jewellery carried deep personal significance.

Her diamond button tiara has roots stretching back to 1936, when it was presented to the Bourbon family as a wedding gift for Princess Alicia of Bourbon-Parma upon her marriage to Infante Alfonso, Duke of Calabria.

Adding a further layer of sentiment, Isabel chose to wear pearl earrings belonging to her mother, Princess Maria, who had herself worn them on her own wedding day to the Archduke.
