King Charles has said he is deeply shocked and saddened following the horrific attack in Manchester that has left two victims dead.

The attack took place at a synagogue in the Crumpsall area of Greater Manchester.

Two members of the public have died, with the attacker also believed to have been killed after being shot by police.

The police have been unable to confirm the attacker’s death due to “suspicious items on his person” with a bomb disposal unit at the scene.

King Charles has said he is deeply shocked and saddened following the horrific attack in Manchester that has left two victims dead.

Greater Manchester Police have also stated that “three other members of the public remain in a serious condition”.

King Charles said in an official statement: “My wife and I have been deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the horrific attack in Manchester, especially on such a significant day for the Jewish community.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this appalling incident and we greatly appreciate the swift actions of the emergency services.”

Today is Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, also issued a statement following the attack.

He said: “Today we have witnessed a vile attack on our Jewish community on its holiest day.

“We condemn whoever is responsible and will do everything within our power to keep people safe.

“We stand with GM’s Jewish community at this time and will work through the day to support them.”

Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, has flown back from Denmark to chair an emergency COBRA meeting following the attack on the synagogue.

Sir Keir has confirmed that “additional police assets” will be deployed at synagogues across the country after the attack in Manchester.

The Prime Minister stated: “We will do everything to keep our Jewish community safe.”
