Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have been told by King Charles that they must support themselves financially amid a clampdown on non-working members of the family using royal residences, Robert Jobson has claimed.

The royal author has provided an insight into the cost-cutting measures taken within the Royal Family in his book titled The Windsor Legacy.

Members of the extended Royal Family must now achieve financial independence, with subsidised housing arrangements ending.

Prince Andrew’s daughters, who are not working royals, reportedly received explicit instructions to become financially independent from the Royal Family.

Beatrice has a residence in St James’s Palace, while Eugenie uses a cottage in Kensington Palace as her UK base.

The King expressed frustration to confidants that royal residences were “being run like a hotel, and not a very good one.”

Various relatives have maintained apartments at reduced rates, with some permitting their offspring to utilise these properties as convenient London bases.

“The King isn’t running a housing association for distant relatives,” one source stated bluntly.

Future property arrangements will involve market-rate rentals to vetted external tenants.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s removal from Frogmore Cottage marked the beginning of these property reforms.

The Crown Estate residence, gifted by the late Queen in 2018 but vacant following their relocation overseas, in 2020 was reclaimed shortly after Prince Harry published his memoir in 2023.

A senior source described the eviction as the “tip of the iceberg”.

Staff reductions also commenced promptly, with “value for money” becoming the dominant principle throughout the Household.

The King’s strategy emphasises recruiting and retaining skilled personnel through improved compensation packages and pension provisions.

Palace insiders describe excessive layers of management, with “too many advisers to advisers” creating inefficiency.

Financial controls now extend across both taxpayer-funded Sovereign Grant resources and the monarch’s private Duchy of Lancaster income.

“The old ways made no sense. Change had to come,” a source told Jobson.
