Several of the front pages feature Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s announcement that he will make changes to the early prison release scheme in England and Wales.

The Daily Mirror, external says the decision to exclude those convicted of manslaughter from the scheme represents “justice for loved ones” and a “relief” for victims’ families.

But the Daily Mail, external believes that releasing some inmates serving indefinite sentences will mean the government allowing “more dangerous criminals” onto the streets.

The Guardian, external picks up warnings that the plans could trigger further overcrowding in prisons and leave them “one major event from disaster”.

The Daily Telegraph, external highlights a letter from the Governor of the Bank of England Andrew Bailey, saying that there could be a “severe downturn” in the global economy if the “AI bubble bursts”. The paper says he has told members of the G20 group of advanced economies that the “soaring levels of debt” used to fund the industry could trigger a “potentially disorderly correction”.

The i Paper, external has spoken to a number of people caught up in a Post Office IT scandal, who call on the prime minister to speed up the process of quashing their criminal convictions and paying compensation. The group of postmasters were convicted using evidence from the faulty Capture system, a predecessor to the Horizon software. They have told the paper that Burnham should take a “fresh look” at the “torturous” processes they’ve been going through. The government said it is working hard to deliver for them as soon as possible.

Do not trust “unqualified wellness influencers” on social media is the warning from the NHS carried in the Times, external. It says a study has found nearly half the UK’s population is spending more than £120 a year on health supplements promoted online. The NHS has told the paper that the use of products like magnesium for stress, or collagen for anti-ageing, aren’t backed by “good evidence”.

Pictures of the young sons of one of the two police officers killed in a crash in Middlesbrough last weekend are on several front pages, after they led out Manchester United for their match against Ipswich Town at Old Trafford yesterday. The Sun, external says they were “united for dad”, while the Daily Star, external hails them as the “bravest boys in Britain”.
