Shrewsbury Town have signed defender Kevin Berkoe from Salford City for an undisclosed fee.
He is the club’s first signing since the appointment of new boss Gavin Cowan and could make his debut at Colchester United on Saturday.
Berkoe spent four years with Salford, during which he also had loan spells at Altrincham, Maidstone, Woking and Rochdale, and can play on both sides of the defence.
“The timing of the window closing means we are not in a position to make a flurry of signings, but we felt it was important to invest in the group and add the balance that is required,” said Cowan.
Shrewsbury are only three points clear of the relegation places in League Two.
