A lifelong Labour voter has told GB News that Sir Keir Starmer has left him “saddened” and “disillusioned” about Britain’s future.

Speaking to GB News star Patrick Christys, the pensioner declared that the politicians have “forgotten about the people”, with other locals sharing the same view.

During a post-Budget special at the Penydarren Social Club in Merthyr Tydfil, Patrick sat down with furious locals in the Welsh town, who have been left dismayed at the current Labour Government.

Speaking to the People’s Channel, a lifelong Labour voter told Patrick: “I stopped voting Labour with Jeremy Corbyn, I couldn’t cope with him, but I voted for Keir Starmer.

“But I don’t think I’ll be voting for Keir Starmer come the next election.”

Admitting current British politics has left him feeling “disillusioned”, he added: “And it leaves me feeling very disillusioned and saddened by politics as a whole.

“I haven’t got people to look up to, admire, respect and vote for.”

Asking another Welsh local what he thinks of Labour postponing four mayoral elections to 2028, he told GB News: “Obviously they’re not in a strong position. If they were in a strong position, they wouldn’t be doing it.

“I think everything that’s coming from all the other parties, Labour haven’t got a chance have they? They’re just dropping out of the sky basically.”

Speaking to another Merthyr Tydfil resident, Patrick asked him what he thinks the current Labour Government can do to win back the trust of voters.

He responded: “That’s a difficult question. I don’t think Labour will get many votes because in my opinion, politicians have forgotten about the people they are supposed to be representing.

“Especially Westminster politics, they’re all for London and the southeast, and they’ve forgotten likes of Wales altogether.”

Pressed by Patrick on whether he wants Wales to become independent, the voter said: “I think Wales should be independent, but not Plaid Cymru. Complete independence.

“I want total independence. I know people say we can’t afford it, but I think it’s worth giving it a go.”

He added: “Because as I said, Westminster has forgotten about Wales and the north of England probably. It’s always London centric, they want London and south east.

“The Senedd is just an arm of Westminster. They’ve got no political power, they’ve got no tax raising powers. The Senedd is not what it should be, so I think we should go for independence.”

Hitting out at the issue of immigration in Wales, one local expressed outrage that migrants would most likely “have a mortgage before his daughter”.

He fumed: “They don’t listen to us, they don’t talk to us, and Plaid and Labour have got together for the last 25, 30 years and just did what they want.

“Only recently have we learned what this country of sanctuary means, we weren’t aware that was going on. It’s for asylum seekers and refugees, essentially, there’s about 16 points in there that put them in front of ordinary people.

“They will have mortgages before my daughter will, they will have leisure services before my son will, they will have health care before my grandmother will, they’re in front of the list and financially it’s killing us. What about our people? This is crazy, and it’s just not fair. It’s not right.”
