GB News Political Editor Christopher Hope has grilled Sir Keir Starmer on whether he plans to “open up oil and gas fields” to try and bring down the cost of fuel for struggling Britons.

The Prime Minister told GB News viewers: “I do know how anxious your viewers and everybody else will be in relation to their energy bills because there’s a conflict going on. They will have their own views and worries about the extent of that conflict, and many are worried that it escalates rather than deescalate.

“So I’m clear we need to de-escalate in relation to their bills in the here and now. We are taking measures to protect them, and I want to just make that clear for all your viewers, because for the next three months, their bills will come down and be held down.

“And they need that reassurance because some are worried that they’re going to go up next week or next month. Bills in the here and now, we are taking measures to protect them, and I want to just make that clear for all your viewers, because for the next three months, their bills will come down and be held down, and they need that reassurance because some are worried that they’re going to go up next week or next month. That won’t happen.”
