Sir Keir Starmer has delivered his final address to the nation from Downing Street as he steps down as Prime Minister.

The outgoing leader declared his premiership a success and declared that “my work is done” in a short speech before assembled Cabinet Ministers, No10 staff and press.

“It has been the privilege of my life to serve you and this great country as prime minister, and I am confident that Britain is now stronger and fairer than it was two years ago,” Sir Keir said.

“I go with good grace, I go with a smile, and I go proud of everything that we have achieved. Thank you very much.”

Sir Keir also gave his full endorsement to his successor, Andy Burnham, to begin assembling his Cabinet later today.

The outgoing Prime Minister then retired from his lectern to thunderous applause before making his way to Buckingham Palace to meet King Charles and formally resign.
