Sir Keir Starmer has been accused of trying to “buy off” Sir Sadiq Khan by looking to hand over a peerage to the Mayor Of London.

The potential peerage would follow what is expected to be a damaging round of local elections while the Prime Minister seeks to strengthen his position.

Westminster insiders claimed the appointment would help Sir Keir “shore up his position with patronage” during a period of political instability.

Commenting on Sir Sadiq’s potential promotion, Keith Prince, a Reform UK London Assembly member, told GB News the move could be Sir Keir’s bid to “buy off” the Labour mayor.

He told GB News: “Well, it can’t be a reward for performance, can it? Let’s be honest.

“He must be one of the worst performing mayors in the history of the mayoralty. I could list a whole range of areas where he’s underperformed.

“I think Starmer’s almost being clever here. He’s obviously sees Khan as a threat to him. And we saw what he did to the mayor of Manchester…”

The Prime Minister received a slew of criticism for voting down leadership rival – and “King of the North” – Andy Burnham’s bid to return to Westminster earlier this year.
