Princess Kate could don a tiara for the third time this year when Germany’s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrives for his state visit on December 3.

The 43-year-old royal has already sparkled in formal headwear twice in 2025, suggesting another glittering appearance may be imminent.

Buckingham Palace confirmed in October that President Steinmeier had accepted King Charles’s invitation for the three-day diplomatic visit to the UK.

Such occasions traditionally culminate in grand state banquets on their opening evening, where female royals customarily wear tiaras as part of the formal dress code.

Kensington Palace has yet to confirm the Princess of Wales’s attendance at such an event.

State Visits represent crucial diplomatic engagements for the British monarchy, serving as vital channels for nurturing international relations with foreign dignitaries.

These official occasions invariably feature elaborate state banquets on their inaugural evening, events marked by exceptional formality and protocol.

At such gatherings, tiaras constitute essential elements of the dress code for royal women, transforming these diplomatic dinners into glittering showcases of the monarchy’s historic jewellery collection.

Despite the Royal Family’s renowned assemblage of these precious headpieces, opportunities to wear them remain remarkably scarce, typically reserved for weddings and occasions demanding the highest level of ceremonial dress.

Princess Kate has selected Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara for her two formal appearances this year, establishing it as her preferred choice for state occasions.

The historic piece adorned the Princess during July’s state banquet at Windsor Castle, honouring French dignitaries, marking her first tiara moment of 2025.

She returned to the same sparkling headpiece in September when Windsor Castle hosted another state banquet celebrating American President Donald Trump’s diplomatic visit to Britain.

This particular tiara has emerged as the Princess’s most frequently chosen piece from the royal collection, making it the likely candidate for December’s anticipated formal dinner.

The Prince and Princess of Wales routinely participate in state banquets as part of their royal responsibilities, often serving as co-hosts for these prestigious diplomatic gatherings.

Their attendance at December’s event appears highly probable, given their consistent presence at previous state occasions throughout the year.

The German president’s visit spans three days, from Wednesday, December 3, through Friday, December 5, providing ample opportunity for formal diplomatic engagement.
