Princess Kate and Prince William have issued a joint statement expressing their horror following an attack at a synagogue in Manchester.

The attack took place at a synagogue in the Crumpsall area of Greater Manchester.

Two members of the public have died as a result of the attack.

It has also been confirmed that the attacker died after being shot by police.

The police were originally unable to confirm the man’s death due to “suspicious items on his person” with a bomb disposal unit called to the scene.

Greater Manchester Police have also stated that “three other members of the public remain in a serious condition”.

Today is Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

The Prince and Princess of Wales said: “Our thoughts are with the victims and the families of the terrible attack at Heaton Park Synagogue.

“The fact that this tragedy occurred on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, makes it all the more shocking.

“We are thinking of the entire community as well as the emergency responders who attended this terrible incident. W & C”.

King Charles also released a statement this afternoon condemning the attack.

The King said he was deeply saddened following the horrific incident as he outlined his and Queen Camilla’s shock.

Sir Keir has confirmed that “additional police assets” will be deployed at synagogues across the country.

King Charles said in an official statement: “My wife and I have been deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the horrific attack in Manchester, especially on such a significant day for the Jewish community.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this appalling incident and we greatly appreciate the swift actions of the emergency services.”

Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, flew back from Denmark to chair an emergency COBRA meeting following the attack on the synagogue.

Sir Keir has confirmed that “additional police assets” will be deployed at synagogues across the country.

The Prime Minister stated: “We will do everything to keep our Jewish community safe.”
