Television presenter Kate Garraway has disclosed that she is seeking an ADHD assessment following discussions with musician Cat Burns whilst recording Celebrity Traitors.

The 58-year-old Good Morning Britain anchor recognised potential symptoms of the neurodevelopmental condition after speaking with Ms Burns, 25, who has both ADHD and autism spectrum disorder.

During their time filming the BBC programme, Ms Garraway discovered parallels between her own experiences and those described by her co-star.

The broadcaster told The Sun on Sunday: “Talking to people like Cat about their music and about their life — she’s autistic and ADHD and I’ve got that in my family.”

Ms Garraway revealed she has already begun the diagnostic process and believes the outcome is fairly certain.

“And actually, I’m in the process of an ADHD diagnosis myself. In fact, I think it’s pretty clear I am,” she stated.

The presenter expressed particular interest in understanding how the condition presents itself in Ms Burns’ daily life. “So it’s fascinating to see how it manifested for her,” Ms Garraway added.

ADHD, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, affects brain function and typically involves challenges with concentration, heightened activity levels and impulse control.

Common indicators include forgetfulness, distractibility, difficulty following directions and frequently misplacing items, according to NHS guidance.

Ms Burns received her ADHD diagnosis in 2021 and discovered she had autism spectrum disorder two years later.

During the programme, the singer-songwriter explained how her conditions affect her interactions with others after being quizzed by Stephen Fry on why she took so many naps during the day.

“I do have autism and ADHD, so when I’m around people a lot, it takes a lot more effort. Sometimes I just need time away,” Burns said whilst filming.

The 25-year-old had previously spoken to the BBC about her diagnoses, explaining that whilst she knew about her ADHD, she sensed additional neurological differences she wanted to explore.

Her openness about needing solitary time and managing social situations resonated with Ms Garraway, prompting the presenter’s self-reflection about similar traits.

Ms Garraway also reflected on how her late husband Derek Draper might have responded to her participation in the reality programme.

“He would have watched, going, ‘How could you not see this?!'” she said.

Mr Draper passed away in January 2024 at age 56 following health complications from Covid-19.

When eliminated from the show, Ms Garraway delivered an emotional farewell address to her fellow contestants.

“I’ve had a lot of years of being very serious and very sad, and you’ve all allowed me to play the most amazing game, be silly and have fun,” she told the group.

Heading into Thursday’s finale, Ms Burns remains one of two surviving Traitors alongside comedian Alan Carr. However, if they’re to secure victory, they’ll have to oust remaining Faithfuls Joe Marler, Nick Mohammed, and David Olusoga.
