England’s Judd Trump booked his place in the quarter-finals of the Champion of Champions tournament with a 4-1 win over Bai Yulu of China.

Reigning women’s world champion Bai, 22, won the opening frame of a first meeting between the players.

But men’s world number one Trump held his nerve at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester to win the next two frames.

The 36-year-old then found his rhythm with breaks of 84 and 71 to progress to the last eight of the non-ranking invitational tournament.

Trump will face another Chinese player in Lei Peifan, ranked 31 in the world, next after he knocked out England’s Shaun Murphy.

Lei opened up a two-frame lead before world number nine Murphy reduced the deficit to one frame.

However, Lei responded with a break of 61 to take the fourth frame with Murphy unable to respond in the fifth as the 22-year-old sealed a 4-1 success.
